Over the course of a 3 month placement I worked at SMR Automotive as an Undergraduate Production Engineer. My main responsibility was a project that investigated the feasibility of installing a 6 axis robot to automate repetitive production processes The tasks undertaken over the course of my 3 month placement consisted of:• Using CAD software (Autodesk Inventor) to design many components that have been implemented into production processes. • Designing various robot end-of-arm grippers and spool feeding systems used in the automation of various parts. • Designing various mounts used in the CMM (Computer Measuring Machine) analysis process.• Being responsible for programming a 6 axis robot for automation of various areas of production• Completing various cost benefit analyses of possible automation processes• Completing various thermal trials in the annealing of internally stressed components• Completing thermal studies on moulding equipment and parts to determine likelihood of defects
