I have extensive design & development experience in firmware for resource-constrained, real-time, Embedded Systems. I am very interested in discussing any permanent or contract, part-time (20~35 hrs/wk), positions anyone might have available that would be a good match for my skills.During most of my career I have specialized in board/platform bring-up, debugging & hardware verification, low-level software/firmware (data acquisition, monitoring & control, communications, RTOS's, device drivers, etc.), and firmware architecture for "bare metal" & RTOS-equipped (CMX, FreeRTOS, ThreadX, etc.) 8/16/32-bit MCUs, along with supporting test code --both device-level and PC-based apps in Python & VC++.I actually began my career working in hardware (circuits & systems), which I believe provides me with a degree of insight that many engineers trained exclusively in software lack.I am a better-than-average writer, both at the professional and hobby levels.Also, as a life-long learner, I believe I owe it to myself and to my employers/clients to continue the education process indefinitely.For example, I completed a course (late 2018) in 'Writing Portable Device Drivers' and I am in the process of beginning a group of online STEM training classes including refresher Certificates in Precalculus & Calculus, two Bluetooth LE courses, and Certificates in Excel & VBA.I also plan to pursue an M.S. Degree in Multidisciplinary Studies (MSMS) at SUNY: Buffalo State in the Spring of 2023. My program of study will include two 12 hour concentrations: Data Science & Analytics and Applied Philosophy.

I was responsible for writing, enhancing, and maintaining the monitoring and control firmware for both reference designs and customer platforms based on Valencell's "PerformTek (tm)"​ wearable (earbud, armband, & wristband) biometric sensor technology.Languages utilized included C and assembly. My everyday tool set consisted of a Windows cross-development platform, several IDEs, a number of target-specific compiler/assembler/linker tool chains & JTAG debuggers/program loaders, specialized communications monitoring tools (PuTTY, Serial Monitor), several "diff"​ tools, Tortoise SVN (a Subversion client), a number of specialized in-house target boards with breakout headers and test points for verifying and debugging code, a digital oscilloscope, a bench-top power supply, and a DMM.I worked on a number of low-level device drivers built in compliance with a new standardized, object-oriented, I/O Module API "class"​ structure that I designed to bring C++ like features into a C-only environment. I completed device drivers for multiple specialized light emitter/detector ICs, 4 or more accelerometer/gyro ICs, I2C bus controllers (master & slave), serial UART interfaces, a Real-Time Clock-Calendar (RTCC), and an LED controller/driver component.In addition, I was responsible for porting our code to multiple micro-controller platforms, and I added a small OS micro-kernel that I implemented to schedule tasks and supply general-purpose timers from a pool.Finally, I was responsible for determining most aspects of both the general and specific direction of the company's firmware efforts going forward. It was my job to specify and/or authorize things such as the firmware architecture & design standards, coding guidelines, and MCU (Micro-Controller Unit) selection and qualification, and to guide the other team members as well.I truly enjoyed my time spent at Valencell and all of the challenges and learning opportunities that were presented to me.
