A recent graduate from Durham University having studied a master’s in Politics and International Relations. During my MA I took particular interest in the defence and security sector, culminating in my dissertation, which I chose to write on UK counter-terrorism policy. In recognition of my contribution to this field and my experience with the Reserve Army while at university, I was accepted into the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals in July 2024.During my time at university, I passed selection to join the University Officer Training Cops (UOTC), completing modules delivered by Sandhurst in fieldcraft, war studies and platoon management. In 2020 I gained a Level 5 diploma in Leadership and Management as a result. I have also had the privilege of representing the Army at international conferences, notably the Peace, Prosperity and security conference in Palermo Italy, which lead me to study a MA in Politics and IR.In 2023 I was promoted to Senior Under Officer and responsible for Arras Company, containing over 120 Officer Cadets, It has been a highlight of my university experience being able to champion and manage them. It has also given me invaluable insight into myself, helping me refine my leadership skills and gain practical experience. I’m proud to have been part of the group of Officer Cadet’s from Sandhurst, Cromwell and Dartmouth that lobbied for a change in policy which allowed Phase 1 trainees to attend pride in an official capacity. Being part of a diverse organisation which actively listens to its employees and champions them at every level is important to me.I have and will continue to foster these values in any job or role which I undertake, having been able to showcase them throughout my time at Durham through my work on the equality, diversity and inclusion committee. I have also sat on my university’s education committee during my undergraduate degree, helping push through assessment reform.A keen sportsman, I started fencing at the age of 13 after a taster session during a school trip, and I have continued to fence competitively since, competing in numerous men’s open championships for both foil and epee. I have represented my local club, my university and my army unit in a variety of competitions over the last ten years.
