Harsha is Research Director of Inclusive Practices Africa (IPA)Research Unit and professor in Communication Sciences and Disorders Division. IPA focuses on inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in all aspects of life. She served in several leadership positions including HOD of the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, Department of Health Sciences Education, acting Deputy Dean Undergraduate Education and Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor, Teaching and Learning. She is on the editorial boards on Journal of Critical Study of Communication and Disability; Disabilities; and Pilot and Feasibility Studies. She has led several curriculum change processes and initiatives nationally and internationally. Harsha is committed to mentoring, leading institutional transformation processes and mobilising support for change. She has mentored several young people who hold key leadership positions.She has supervised several Masters and PhD students in the across In Speech-language Therapy, Audiology, Disability Studies, Health Sciences Education, Education, Occupational Therapy. She has a critical orientation to narrative research, case studies, mixed methods, autoethnography, phenomenology, arts-based, surveys and randomised control trials. Her studies have focussed on life histories of People who Stutter, children’s early communication development and support, classroom communication, therapist- teacher collaborations, community practices, transforming health professions practice and education, strengthening of Inclusive health systems, Inclusive Higher and Basic education, Inclusive Economies and Employment. She taught undergraduate professional Speech-language Therapy and Audiology programmes. Harsha has made significant contributions to developing the professional education field by introducing critical narrative research methodology in research and teaching | embedding research within courses | entrenching primary health care principles and practices to foreground equity | devising inclusive, fair flexible assessment practices | introducing political literacy in professionalization processes | expanding clinical educational sites from clinic to institutional to community sites | investing in critical self-reflexivity.Embodying deepened political consciousness and activism through her work across communication, disability, rehabilitation, and education to advance social justice in higher education.; Her teaching, research, and leadership are underpinned themes of critical praxis, decoloniality, being responsive to context and her positioning in Africa.
