As CTO of Halo Labs, I create value by developing new and innovative products that solve problems for our customers. I also am the site manager for our Philadelphia office and play a key role in fundraising, service, and manufacturing.

Robert Hart, Ph.D. is President and Chief Technology Officer of Optofluidics, Inc., a two-year-old Cornell spinout. In this capacity, Robert oversees corporate partnerships, business development, product development, and all internal R&D. He has played a central role in bringing in over $2M of funding including federal grants and private investments. Robert and CEO Bernardo Cordovez were selected for Life Science Startup of the year in 2012 by the Greater Philadelphia Alliance for Capital and Technologies. Robert attained his Biomedical Engineering doctorate from Drexel University, under Dr. Moses Noh and Dr. Ryszard Lec, and completed his post doc at the University of Pennsylvania under Dr. Haim Bau. Robert was also the Valedictorian for Drexel’s class of 2010. Robert has a broad background in microfabrication, microfluidics, nanomanipulation, and molecular biology and is supported by a cross-disciplinary team at Optofluidics.

Area of study: “Lab on a Chip” and Rapid Diagnostics – Developed point-of-care biochips for Malaria, Tuberculosis and HIV detection for resource poor areas.• Developed and optimized a magnetic bead immunoassay for Lab on a Chip systems• Fabricated a variety of composite devices using CNC/laser machining and polymer bonding • Authored four grants to various governmental and private organizations

Area of study: Microfluidics and Biosensors – The effects of AC electric fields on particles, fluids and molecules was used to improve to microfluidic-based biosensor sensitivity and detection time.• Used electrokinetics to improve biosensor response (and detection time) by a factor of 3• Fabricated sensors with feature sizes of 5-20 µm and developed measurement automation software • Employed finite element modeling, fluorescence immunoassays and piezoelectric sensors• Ran student laboratories and give lectures for classes in Biosensors, MEMS and microfluidics

• Developed protocols for high throughput products on automated platforms• Created custom applications on automated platforms for customers in the US• Improved software and functions on new robotic pipetting stations

• Designed, implemented, improved and maintained automated walk-away systems for the laboratory• Troubleshot quality control issues for high throughput systems• Developed software systems to control equipment and track personnel and machine activities
