A self-employed project where I provide Conflict / Harm resolution, management, and transformation support and mentoring with an anti-oppressive (i.e. liberatory) and trauma-informed lens to the greater DC area at the internal (healing), interpersonal, communal, institutional (organizational), and macro level (usually for social movements).I take an 'ecosystem' approach to this work -- understand how each moment of conflict and harm is not only about the situation itself, but also about a larger context around it. Through my work with clients, I seek to help surface the 'deep roots' of the ecosystem that seem broken or need support, and support clients in being able to repair / reconnect them.Services include (but are not limited to):- Create and facilitate processes (TJ / RJ / etc.) to restore and repair individual, interpersonal, and communal relationships (i.e. 'a return to authenticity and connection'); train and resource individuals on how to sustain this work into the future beyond the transformation in question- Create and implement sustainable (and fluid-to-change) processes for filling gaps; with a critical eye towards addressing and repairing power imbalances, oppression and trauma.- Provide intra-organizational or movement conflict / harm work; everything from repairing relationships to setting up sustainable anti-oppressive and trauma-informed ways of working and being with one another- 3rd Party consulting on conflict / harm work for movements- Collaborating with other practitioners in the DC area to create training and community-building modules for conflict / harm transformation (with an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed lens)- Arts-based conflict and harm transformation methods--Why the name Jar Amok (Deep Root)? Jar Amok is made of two words that represent my two ancestral lineages: Jar -- 'Root' in Urdu, the language of my Pakistani Muslim father; Amok -- 'Deep' in Hebrew, the language of my E. European Jewish mother.

Facilitate connections and deep conversations in order to transform the work and personal relationship culture within a high-intensity and high-speed organization towards one of equity, dignity, and co-creation. Compassionately surface the conflicts that have gone un-addressed within the organization, getting those at the table who are the best able to resolve it, and facilitate the conflicts to resolution / deeper transformation for the individuals / teams / organization as a whole.Manage and drive new website launch, with the aim of bolstering communications, collaboration, empathy, and accountability between teams within the organization. Create mechanisms for feedback loops and co-creation so that teams can influence how Ashoka shows and tells its messaging in an articulate way to the outside world, and so that this conversation continues to evolve internally. Support every individual Ashoka team to get their needs met, as it relates to communications, the website, and creating opportunities for equitable collaboration across the different teams (as well as allowing co-leading capacity for each of the teams in question).

I started this nonprofit organization/initiative to provide Jews in the Durham/Chapel Hill community a safe and welcoming environment to engage in civil discourse on an emotionally charged issue within the Jewish community: the relationship between American Jews and Israel. I also expanded this project to include race relations between people of all faiths in Durham, North Carolina. The goal of these programs were to develop critical and honest relationships across social divides in the pursuit of working together with one another to address societal and racial injustice within our communities.As director of the project, I did the following:Coordinate, program and facilitate civil conversation groups on political topics in Israel for Beth El Synagogue community. The Southern Oral History Program conducts and archives oral histories from individuals living in the south. Projects have included the LGBTQ presence around Chapel Hill, the experience of black farmers in the south, and the long women's rights movement in North Carolina.As research assistant, I produced and edited interview transcripts, abstracts, and tape logs from audio interviews.
