Alkhatib founded IP Dynamics, in 1998, as a software startup in Silicon Valley. IP Dynamics introduced the industry’s first platform for hosting (cloud-based) secure, software connectivity services that enable users and resources to connect securely from anywhere to anywhere regardless of their location and the underlying network. The service hosting product was sold to major telecommunication carriers around the world, in North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Alkhatib built the company from the ground up to a level of worldwide staffing of 80.Alkhatib raised $31 million in venture capital funding that was led by Intel Capital. He managed the release of five generations of the company’s carrier-class service hosting product for secure Portable Network™ services. The company product won several awards and security certifications. Alkhatib established strategic partnerships with IBM, Sun Microsystems, Intel Corporation, and HP, plus several other medium and small companies. He managed the sale of the product to major telecommunication carriers around the world including SBC Communications (now AT&T) and Bell Canada in North America; Deutsche Telekom and British Telecom in Europe, China Telecom, China Netcom, China Unicom, and China Mobile in Asia, and Etisalat in the Middle East.

Alkhatib joined Santa Clara University in September 1981 as Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. I taught undergraduate and graduate courses on Microprocessors, Computer Architecture, Computer Networking, and Distributed Computing. He conducted research in computer networking and distributed processing and was Director of the Parallel and Distributed Computing Research Lab for 10 years, where he managed a team of a dozen scholars and multi-million dollar research contractsAlkhatib published over 50 scholarly papers in journals and international conferences and symposia.As a professor he also served on numerous university committees and provided services to the community. He led the development of the Computer Engineering Department at Santa Clara University in 1989 He chaired the doctoral program committee in Computer Engineering for 10 years.He chaired the university Academic Affairs Committee for 2 years and was responsible for leading the development of a new University Core Curriculum Program that required coordination with all Deans and the Faculty Senate to approve.He chaired the university Research Committee for 2 years and served on the Engineering Rank and Tenure Committee for 8 yearsBetween 1997 and 1998 he was Director of the Distance Learning Program at SCU. He developed the program from its inception and managed its curriculum, operations and the faculty that taught in the program.
