As part of the President's Road Map Internship at Binghamton University, a team of 6 School of Management students were tasked with creating a case competition that would increase the engagement of the University with the local high schools. After weeks of research and brainstorming we created the annual Bright Spots Case Competition. Description of the Bright Spots Case Competition:The Bright Spots Case Competition challenges junior-level students to develop a project that they believe would create a positive change in their community. In the process, students will learn more about where they live and how they can be a part of improving their surroundings, all while putting to use many highly valuable skills they'll need to be successful after graduation. My role in founding the competition:After the initial brainstorming process where we all worked on creating a strategic plan for the competition and defining what it is, we delegated the logistic tasks to initiate the competition within two months. My roles included:Recruiting key stakeholders in the local community such as mayors, CEOs, and service leaders to act as judges and sponsorsLogistical planning for the competition such as the implementation of a registration process, budgeting, and room reservations/cateringCreation of a website/marketing materials to effectively communicate the value of the competition.Mentor winning team to support them with turning their project concept into a reality with bi-weekly meetings to discuss progress, future steps, and encouraging their development as leaders in the communityVisit www.bubrightspots.org to see the designed website and learn more about the competition!
