The DalTRAC is a multidisciplinary research institution at Dalhousie University dedicated to the improvement of transportation engineering/planning practice and research. He completed his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh. Through various assignments, students will learn to work and draw conclusions about distributions of key population characteristics—such as population and dwelling densities, age group distribution, and socioeconomic conditions—in and across communities. Weekly laboratory exercises will introduce how some of the key geographic and demographic concepts and methods can be applied in planning research, using actual data. The analysis will pay attention to differences across rural, suburban and urban neighborhoods and communities, allowing the students to critically think about the implication in planning decision making.Objectives:• Demonstrate basic understanding of theoretical concepts related to population trends and social factors represented in common population data and indicators;• Apply basic population geographic and demographic datasets and analysis methods;• Interpret spatial and temporal phenomena within and across communities through case studies;• Recognize various inequalities in assets and vulnerabilities across communities; and• Apply GIS and infographics to communicate data interpretations to community and professional audience.
