G'day, Let me try and put a few decades in a nutshell. From 1999 to 2006, I held various roles on the Eyre Peninsula in the Government Sector. These included working with the Federal Government’s Australian Sports Commission, being a Community Builder Facilitator for the Office of Regional Development, and then at the Local Government level as Community and Economic Development Officer. I was also a Regional Development Board Member of the Eyre Peninsula from 2003 to 2007.I was lucky enough to earn a $50,000 scholarship to undertake the Australian Rural Leadership Program in 2002 which ended up being a life-changing experience and the start of my tourism journey. In 1999, the opportunity arose to purchase a rundown homestead on 3,000 acres on the Eyre Peninsula and Coodlie Park Farm Retreat was renovated into a unique eco-retreat and campground. (It was sold in 2021 when we moved to Port Lincoln but those who visited me there will agree it was a special place). With a vision to put the Eyre Peninsula (EP) on the map as a tourism destination, in 2004, I purchased a struggling tour company that operated camping tours across the Nullarbor, between Adelaide and Perth. and spent the following years growing this business and proudly advocating for the EP to the international market. We expanded our touring company, founding Xplore Eyre in 2010, which offered higher-end tours in the same regions. Working in partnership with the South Australian Tourism Commission and Tourism Western Australia, we have played host to hundreds of domestic and international travel agents, proudly showcasing the Eyre Peninsula, Nullarbor and the South West of Western Australia.Like all tour operators and tourism businesses in general, COVID smashed us. But we fought hard, took risks and diversified our products and in October 2021, rebranded our existing touring brands to one inclusive brand, Untamed Escapes. A sidestep into Wellness Tourism and our rebrand has given our business a new competitive edge and me a new lease on life! In fact, I am sure had we not rebranded I would not be in tourism today.Sustainability is deeply ingrained in our culture and DNA. Untamed Escapes is Advanced Eco Accredited and Climate Change Innovator and Tourism Australia recognised me in 2021 as a Sustainability Hero. But we believe "sustainable is no longer good enough and in 2022, Untamed Escapes will reveal its five year Regen Roadmap with a view to become a leader in this space and inspire others to do the same.
