Yet, I defied expectations at every turn. I earned a spot in one of the country’s top bachelor’s degree programs, worked at Vietnam’s first social networking service, and managed online marketing for the nation’s first international professional basketball team.My journey didn’t stop there. I became part of the inaugural group of the U.S. Department of State’s Professional Fellows, was the first from Vietnam to attend the iMBA program at IE Business School, and went on to build out Business Operations functions at a Series B startup. I then joined Google and later rose to an executive position at another Series B startup.Transitioning from an underprivileged girl in Vietnam to a thriving professional in Silicon Valley, I realized that conventional wisdom wasn’t enough.
