Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area

I currently work at for State Parks at the Oceano Dunes as part of an effort to conserve the threatened Western Snowy Plover as well as the endangered California Least Tern. Duties include monitoring and walking to nests, facilitating banding, predator management, habitat enhancement, and full beach surveys.

Pozo Ca, Los Padres National Forest

A fun summer filled with condor telemetry and small mammal trapping at randomly selected plots in three habitat types as part of a joint effort between the Forest Service, Cal Poly, and the Audubon Society.

Montaña De Oro, San Luis Obispo County, Ca

I worked under a grad student interested in how the community structure of birds and bats was influenced by vegetation type. I was paid to conduct regular point counts and liked it so much I chose the same site to conduct a senior project on how ocean noise influenced song structure in White-crowned Sparrows. The data my partner and I collected was used by the grad student in a collaborative paper that was published in Behavioral Ecology.
