About Julia Hawkins

I'm a freelance photographer specialising in taking natural, emotionally intelligent portraits of people, from corporate headshots and personal branding images to documentary projects. I’m currently working on a portrait photography book for the School of Life on the subject of loneliness, which will be published in 2025. I’ve been shortlisted for the Royal Photographic Society’s Portrait of Britain Award in 2024 and 2021. You can find examples of my work, with clients including the Overseas Development Initiative, Hill Group, Willmott Dixon, Bioregional and the Ethical Trading Initiative, at eyeslikeahawkins.com.Before retraining as a photographer in 2019 I specialised in sustainability communications, including spending 5 years as head of communications at the leading sustainability consultancy Bioregional, and 8 years as media relations manager at the Ethical Trading Initiative. I am keen to keep working with charities and purpose-led businesses. I also offer part-time copywriting and editing support to sustainability organisations and have been described as ‘infuriatingly good’ at proofreading.
