Conservation and captive breeding/rearing of the endangered Attwater’s prairie chicken for reintroduction.

Assisted with the implementation of recovery efforts for the critically endangered Attwater's prairie chicken. Monitored post release survival and movements using radio telemetry. Collected mortalities to determine predation and recorded finding at kill sites. Collected fecal samples in and around the outside of acclimation pens to test for Cryptosporidium. Assisted with processing and moving birds from the breeding facilities to the refuge and cared for birds while in the acclimation pens prior to release. Assisted with management practices as well as wildlife and vegetation surveys. Collected biological specimens to be used for research purposes. Processed eggs for nutritional study being conducted to analyze diets of captive breeding birds. Analyzed and compiled data collected from surveys and imported it into databases to be accessed when needed for management decisions. Provided educational outreach to visitors and school groups about the Attwater's Prairie Chicken and conservation efforts being conducted.

Provided hospitality to guests visiting. Completed daily tasks assigned to be done every shift. Answered questions and addressed issues and concerns as well as relaying issues back to management for them to address.

Monitored nesting boxes used by Eastern Bluebirds. Checked boxes twice a week to determine activity inside and identify if the box was occupied by Eastern Bluebirds. Noted details such as nest structure, clutch size, incubation, hatching, brooding, and fledging. Reported all findings to the research lead for the project.

Provided husbandry for animals staying at the hospital. Cleaned and disinfected the facilities to ensure a safe environment for the animals and people.
