    Successfully lead the review services team (which we dubbed the greatest review team to ever live), to achieve astounding real world results.I’d say one of the key highlights here, was pulling everyone together to clear a (long overdue) backlog of over 100 outstanding items within just 28 days. This was inspiring for two reasons: the first I enjoyed seeing everyone come together for a common goal, and secondly, I could directly see how doing this was reducing compliance risk and increasing efficiency for the business as a whole.I was also inspired to bring my ‘whole self’ to this role and integrate plenty of my personal leadership lessons into a professional setting. Sometimes we forget this one and think there needs to be two of us (the professional ‘us’ and the personal ‘us’). I combined these two and the results spoke (and continually speak) for themselves.In a practical sense, some of the initiatives I lead included:> introducing personal goal setting sessions> specific skills development sessions> building and leading people through a comprehensive gaps analysis tool which detailed ALL tasks within the role and a rating system to show where the individual considered themselves at the time, and> making space for personal reflection during the weekly meetings I lead.I am honoured to have been asked to stepped up and help bring out the best in our small but mighty team of four, and am grateful to have contributed to the results we achieved.Despite moving into a new role within the company, I know the foundations, systems and processes we set as a team will assist every new entrant into the business as we continue to expand…although in my mind, we will always be the greatest review team to ever live!

    Over the course of 6 fruit seasons (generally 3 months at a time due to the fact this is what I did during the Summer break periods while at University), I held a number of interesting and varied roles for SPCA. From getting my hands dirty cleaning floors and empyting fruit bins, to mixing the sauce that goes into the baked beans and spaghetti you see on the shelves in Woolies and Coles (I love telling my wife every time we walk passed the canned fruit section that *that* is what I did). It was amazing to see fruit go from a giant tipper, into a can - and know I contributed somewhere along the line to almost every process.In 2008, during one of these working 'seasons' I also spent 3 months in an IT role for SPC Ardmona within their newly created "NDC" (National Distribution Centre - at the time the largest warehouse in the southern hemisphere). My role was to assist all staff (forkies and picker/packers) with any IT issue that came up for them to ensure we could get more product on the trucks and out to clients. The hours were long and not what I was used to (3pm until anywhere between 12-3am) but I really loved it. It was fast paced and had plenty of variety.
