During my second period with Landis+Gyr I was part of the mechanical development team within R&D. I was involved with the mechanical testing and design of the ABS covers that are used in the production of the gas metres that Landis+Gyr make on-site. My time here involved using multiple platforms for Computer Aided Design for the use in designing mechanical parts and carrying out both flow and stress analyses using Finite Element Modelling in Siemens NX. I was also involved with carrying out experiments to test various characteristics of the cases, such as their ability to prevent water entering the meter, and then submitting results and insights for the use in decisions regarding the materials and shapes from which the parts could be manufactured to provide optimal performance.

In the summer of 2014 I spent 3 months working as part of the metrology team in R&D for Landis+Gyr. During my time I designed a system of testing the angular sensitivity of the ultra-sonic transducers that are used in the measurement of gas-flow in domestic gas meters. The system software was written in C# and facilitated communication between an Arduino Uno (used for controlling various hardware) and a Tektronix oscilloscope (used to measure signal strength in the output of the transducer).
