The Gillings School of Global Public Health at UNC Chapel Hill requires a summer practicum as part of their MPH program. This involves a minimum of 200 hours in a professional public health setting between the first and second years, where students apply their MPH training under mentorship. For my practicum, I joined Ipas Bangladesh to advance sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) in urban and humanitarian settings. My focus included understanding the role of midlevel providers in delivering menstrual regulation (MR), family planning (FP), and post-abortion care (PAC) services within the Bangladesh health system. Additionally, my work explored the importance of empowering these providers for better reproductive care and includes an analysis of the current service delivery system with a supplemental organigram.

-Efficiently roomed patients and gathered comprehensive medical histories.-Performed essential procedures such as vital signs, newborn screenings, vaccinations, and assisted in minor in-office surgeries (circumcision, ingrown toenail removal).-Utilized clinical skills to perform diagnostic testing (swabs, lab tests) and treatments (suctioning, catheterization, nebulizer).-Triaged incoming calls to ensure timely and appropriate patient care.

-Gathered patient information and created comprehensive medical charts.-Efficiently roomed patients and took proper medical histories and vital signs.-Assisted with procedural education, ensuring patient understanding.-Reviewed medications and health history prior to physician visit.-Transported patients to designated hospital departments as needed.-Assisted physicians with patient enrollment and data entry for the OPTION Clinical Trial.-Handled patient calls effectively, addressed concerns and provided clear communication.-Possess a strong understanding of associated procedural registries for accurate data entry.-Obtained prior authorization for all associated procedures and testing.
