Starting as a volunteer, I assisted with the operations of the program coordinator and the after school program; I established my reliability, knowledge within the field, and showcased my ability to go above the expectations of tasks and responsibilities. My supervisor asked me back to take the paid position of an After School Counselor. My role consisted of assisting in the planning and implementation of daily programming for children between the ages of 6 and 12, collaborating and assisting staff while creating and directing activities, monitoring children to ensure the safety and wellbeing, and interacting with children to provide support and general guidance.

This camp counseling position gave me the responsibility of working with 5-7-year-old children in an active and uplifting environment. I successfully created a fun but productive time for my group of campers every week with the help of other counselors, planning, and effectively facilitating the activities. The techniques that I have learned in the classroom thus far in my college experience were put to use through this position.
