About Hayley B
Throughout my career, I have built a vast amount of knowledge in crop production. My knowledge in management of our resources gives me the mindset to look at all variables in assessing plant health. While at Virginia Tech and Clemson University, my focus was in integrated pest management in vegetable crops, receiving a Master’s degree in entomology. Although entomology seems like a specific field, I had to manage fertilizer, water, and any other biotic or abiotic factors that could affect the consistency of my field experiments. I took this knowledge into my role as irrigation technician at two golf courses in Arizona. While at Sun City, I learned how to utilize the Toro Lynx system. Now in my role at Desert Mirage, we do not have a computer system to calculate watering requirements, so I have built different programs within our clocks that target different areas of the golf course (greens, tee boxes, fairways, roughs), which has optimized water usage and has created a much more even layer of turf throughout the golf course. Both golf courses have irrigation systems that are 20+ years old, so much of my time is spent cleaning and repairing sprinkler heads, leaks, and broken valves.Currently, I am looking to further my career in the agricultural sector in a role where I can utilize my education and maintenance experience to help propel innovative agricultural companies further.
