In this role I was responsible for providing support for, and updating, our company website. In my short time in this role I was also working on an application to provide support to several departments to gain access to, update and create, any registers they required for their day-to-day projects.

After two years working as the Lead Technical Author I was promoted to Technical Publications Team Leader managing full time reporting staff whilst ensuring efficient day-to-day running of the Technical Publications department.As well as my previous duties as Lead Technical Author, I also lead and coordinated the Technical Publications team in the development and preparation of technical publications and documentation supporting our seating and galley products. This included the planning and introduction of technical publications, in conjunction with Customer Support and Project Management, and negotiating timescales for completion.I was responsible for all Technical Publications and the Technical Publications team, managing workloads for myself and my team, and developing and implementing effective processes and methods to support the creation and maintenance of our technical publications and other documentation. As a part of this role, I not only had to understand the industry standards and specifications, but I also had to communicate these to the Technical Publications team to ensure that we met contractual requirements, by holding regular team meetings.I was also tasked with improving our processes and standarising our other documentation to the same high levels of our CMM’s. As a part of this I needed to identify any methods and/or publishing tools that were required for efficient running of the department, and define checks and processes to ensure that all technical publications, and other documents, meet industry and quality standards as required.

After five years working as part of the Product Support team as a Technical Author I was promoted to Lead Technical Author, ensuring efficient day-to-day running of the Technical Publications department and management of temporary reporting staff.My new role was very much similar to my role as Technical Author. I was still responsible for creating, maintaining, and distributing technical publications on a day-to-day basis. In this role, as well as managing Technical Publications workload and assigning work to other Product Support members and apprentices, I also deputised in the team manager’s absence. This role also allowed me to liaise with OEM's to establish their technical publication needs, liaise with subcontractors concerning the production of CMM’s and E-Learning materials on a greater level than before, and liaise with relevant departments in the development and use of desk top applications for the benefit of enhanced document production.

Working as the Technical Publications specialist, I was part of the Product Support team, providing technical support relating to crew seats and galley equipment fitted to military, civilian and executive aircraft.My main role as Technical Author was to create and maintain Component Maintenance Manuals (CMM’s) using engineering data, and using CAD models to create technical illustrations. As well as working to strict deadlines, I also worked to various industry specifications, including ATA100, ATA2200, and a starting knowledge of S1000D. I have also been trained in AeroSpace and Defence Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE100).My day-to-day duties would include liaising with Design Engineers to gather information for new and existing CMM’s, as well as managing Technical Publications workload and delegating work to other Product Support members and apprentices. Other duties included working with Product Support Engineers to answer customer queries, distribution of all technical publications, maintaining customer contacts, liaising with subcontractors concerning the production of CMM’s and E-Learning materials, and training apprentices within Product Support.

After a few years working as part of the Product Documentation team as a Technical Writer/Analyst I was promoted to Product Documentation Supervisor. My team and I provided a service to external clients in the financial services sector.My new role was very much similar to my role as a Technical Writer/Analyst. I was still responsible for creating, maintaining, and distributing user documentation, as well as dealing with clients and other departments on a day-to-day basis. New to my role was deputising in the team manager’s absence by handling the workload of the department and assigning tasks to different team members. This also meant that I was responsible for coordinating staff holidays and conducting team member appraisals and back to work interviews.

Working as part of the Product Documentation team as a Technical Writer/Analyst I was part of a team that provided a service to external clients in the financial services sector.My main role as a Technical Writer was to create, maintain, and distribute user documentation, to strict deadlines, for various clients. Documentation included technical user manuals and service bulletins and alerts. As well as this I was also responsible for creating training brochures, amongst other documents, for clients and other teams within the company. As an Analyst I was responsible for checking the work of others and approving this from a non-technical view-point.In the more client-facing side of the role I was responsible for billing clients and chasing queries from clients, as well as from internal staff, including preparation and distribution of CD-ROMs, mandates, file specifications and other communications.Another part of my role was to maintain various company Intranet pages. After a rebranding of the company, I was tasked with designing, implementing, and maintaining a new and rebranded, more user-friendly, company Intranet site.As well as the above, I also played the role of the department co-ordinator, performing many administrative functions and dealing with any general queries. I interacted with people on a daily basis, both alone and as part of a team. During my time in this role I trained other team members in various departmental tasks.In this time I used a wide range of software including Microsoft Office packages, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe Acrobat packages, and Adobe FrameMaker.

In this role I assessed learners who were completing an Level 2 NVQ in Retail in their work-based environment, as well as assessing their Communication and Application of Number Key Skills (up to and including Level 2) through coursework. During this time I also invigilated exams and performed various admin duties.
