I'm Hayley a mum of 2 boys (affectionately nick named Pig and Pip) and the one woman director, seamstress, handmade crafts promoter, fabric hoarder, shop owner and sewing teacher of Pig and Pip.The business started back in 2016 while I was on maternity leave from my full time job as a primary school teacher. I missed the creativity of the classroom and had always wanted to make clothes for children one day after an obsession with The Sound of Music back in the 90s - I know I'm not the only one, and boom Pig and Pip was born! I returned to the classroom in the UAE in 2017 for 3 more years of teaching, travelling and sewing before buying a house near Chepstow in South East Wales and returning to the UK in 2020.As we all know 2020 was filled with the joys of covid which meant lots of mask making for us sewers but it also shone a spotlight on small businesses and shopping small. In September 2020, my boys started school for the first time in Wales and my husband started his new teaching job while I delved deep into the full time world of sewing and running my own small business. It's been a tough old journey full of risk, long hours and relentless promotion and thinking about how to make this little dream a success but things finally seem to be clicking into place.In November 2021 I opened my shop in Chepstow High Street, supported by, to date, over 80 amazing local makers under the name of @the.chepstow.craft.collective It's been an amazing platform for the makers and my clothing but it seems the biggest success at the moment is my sewing workshops 100s of children and adults have come to the shop over the past year with the sole purpose of learning a new skill, meeting new people and have genuinely made me laugh and smile, rekindling my love of teaching.The business is going from strength to strength! Earlier this year I won the New to the Neighborhood award in The Simple Things magazine Neighborhood Awards after being nominated by a customer. Then in June of 2023 I won the Retail Business of the Year in the Monmouthshire and Torfaen Business Awards.
