Growing up I always wanted to own a conglomerate. I knew I wanted success, whatever that meant and I wanted variety. I knew from an early age there was more to experience than life had shown so far and never wanted to limit myself to the mundane. As an adult I sought out knowledge through experience and followed passion and intrigue like a light along the path of life.In 2018 after several years working in various roles within the construction industry, I inherited a national customer database and set about matching local tradespeople with local jobs. Within a short amount of time I recognised a shortage of quality tradespeople and a lack of diversity within the UK construction industry. I identified a gap in the market for inclusive innovative training schemes and the necessity of early engagement with hands-on skills.In 2019, I started developing my concept and piloting hands-on workshops within the home-ed community. Giving birth to my second child that same year, I integrated my family life with my new found passion for teaching and found myself helping children as young as six to hang radiators whilst simultaneously baby wearing and breast feeding. By 2021, the unique workshops' positive impact on young people with and without SEND, their families and wider community was clear. Children re-engaged with learning and able to access education. Parents stating they could, for the first time, envision their child living independently. Young people for whom the world had changed so much, given an opportunity to develop lasting relationships.Plumb Learning CIC was born. A not-for-profit focused on improving the social mobility and general wellbeing of young people through vocational skills.Since then Plumb Learning CIC has reached tens of thousands of young people through schools, the home-ed community, personal tuition, festivals and events.
