Research Associate

The project was concerned with how adults with impairments of capacity and/or communication (AwICC) are included and considered within the ethical and governance frameworks in England and Wales. The work is ongoing to develop an ethically-sound, legally-robust strategy for including AwICC in research within the context of existing legislation. By recognising personal autonomy in all its gradations, and identifying practical strategies and resources that endorse the greater agency of AwICC, the researchers seek to enhance the MCA (2005) Code of Practice.

Assistant Psychologist

I worked as an Assistant Psychologist within a Child, Family and Young Person 'under 14s' service. I received weekly supervision from a Clinical Psychologist. I delivered psychological interventions, such as CBT and ACT, conducted neuropsychological assessments and attended weekly multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings. I collated Routine Outcome Measures and submitted them to the Child Outcome Research Consortium (CORC) annually for data analysis. I was also involved in the implementation of the 'Peoples Outcome Database' (POD) for the meaningful collection of Routine Outcome Measures. I trained staff in the importance of ROMs and on the POD system itself. As the teams Wellbeing Champion I regularly held shared lunches, led staff mindfulness groups and initiated a staff room renovation to promote staff wellbeing.

Assistant Psychologist

I worked as an Assistant Psychologist within a Stroke Early Supported Discharge (ESD) Service. The ESD teams in Norfolk and Suffolk deliver programmes of intensive rehabilitation in patients’ own homes. The service can help eligible patients who have suffered a mild to moderate stroke to leave hospital sooner. I supported service users with post-stroke psychological adjustment, assessed risk and wellbeing, delivered therapeutic interventions, such as ACT and mindfulness, and conducted neuropsychological assessments. I adapted and delivered a wellbeing group and invited ‘experts by experience’ to give a lived example of the use of psychological strategies in recovery. I also supported the delivery of training to give the wider multi-disciplinary team a better understanding of psychological adjustment after stroke.
