Dedicated two years of national service as an AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) at Long Island University’s Brooklyn campus. As a VISTA, I spearheaded the development and launch of the LIU Early College Scholars Program (ECS) which has since offered over 200 high-needs, yet high-achieving, high school students the opportunity to take college courses at no cost; complete up to 30 college credits before high school graduation; participate in college- and career-readiness activities; and receive tutoring and mentoring.- Spearheaded the development and launch of, and later coordinated and managed the LIU Early College Scholars Program (ECS)- Cultivated partnerships with superintendents, principals, and guidance counselors at over 20 high schools in New York City, and with two New York City-based nonprofits- Recruited over 300 applicants for ECS- Created and managed database to track student progress- Supervised six undergraduate student mentors- Coordinated courses, community service, mentoring, and college- and career-readiness workshops for student participants of ECS- Assisted the Director of Foundation Relations at LIU with grant writing, grant reporting, information tracking, and hosting of site visits, from which we secured over $1,000,000 to support ECS- Coordinated numerous events, including open houses, program orientations, and end-of-semester celebrations- Facilitated collaboration and resource-sharing between ECS and the New York State-funded Science & Technology Entry Program (STEP)- Designed and implemented food- and nutrition-related workshops for LIU students in partnership with Resident Assistants
