Office-based experience focuses on the production of technical reports for planning applications. These include preliminary ecological appraisal, protected species survey reports and habitat management plans. To produce biodiversity offsetting calculations and ecological plans for reports is proficient in the use of QGIC mapping software. Additionally schedules reptile surveys for her ecology team. Conducts transect and emergence surveys for bats and assists within internal and external building inspections for roosting bats. I joined the universities conservation volunteer society in my first year as a member and joined the committee in my second year before becoming chair of the society in my final year. The chair has to consult with people from other organisations and so has to be comfortable with approaching people. During my time as chair I confidently demonstrated my organization, motivation and people skills. I further demonstrated strong leadership skills by co-ordinating the rest of the committee, delegating tasks and leading groups of volunteers at activities.Every Sunday we joined various other work parties ran by the Birmingham County Council Rangers. I carried out various habitat management activities, learning skills such as hedge laying and tree felling. At Sandwell Valley RSPB reserve I had the opportunity to examine and empty the nest boxes ready for the breeding season and helped to build an island in the lake for the waterfowl to nest on.In my second year I became secretary for the society where I was responsible for:- writing the weekly emails, checking and alerting other committee members to important emails- creating facebook events- adding new members to the mailing list and maintaining memberships lists, ensuring Student Development had current records- To deal with correspondence with members, interested students and external bodies- To take minutes of the Annual General Meeting and submit copies to Student DevelopmentIn my final year I progressed to chair of the society where my responsibilities entailed:- Organising the weekly activities submitting the notification forms and risk assessments to Student Development in time for approval- Co-ordinating the committee and organizing committee meetings where necessary- Ensuring that the group was represented at meetings required by the Guild, and in any dealings with the Guild or other bodies- To chair the AGM and any other meetings- Organised the fresher’s fairs Show less
