Estab. in 1993, the Hubbard Brook Research Foundation (HBRF) delivers cutting-edge science to decision-makers on the front lines of environmental change. We bridge the gaps between science and education, public policy, land management, corporate sustainability, and recreation. Our programs include roundtable and town-hall events, policy-relevant briefings and bulletins, social and mainstream media outreach, and comms training for students and early-career researchers. Against a backdrop of rapid environmental change, HBRF opens effective channels for action-oriented dialogue between citizens and scientists for smart policy and practice. The Hubbard Brook Ecosystem Study is a long-term, collaborative research program that takes place in the HB Experimental Forest, a 7,800-acre field site in the White Mountains of NH. The Forest was established in 1955 by the USDA Forest Service as a center for hydrologic research. Hubbard Brook is one of 20 Experimental Forests and Rangelands (EFRs) administered by the USDA Forest Service Northern Research Station (with 80 EFRs nationally). For over 60yrs, scientists have used long-term monitoring, experiments, and modeling to build fundamental knowledge about the northern hardwood forests of eastern North America. The Study is a partnership among the USDA Forest Service, the National Science Foundation’s Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) and Long Term Research in Environmental Biology (LTREB) programs, the HBRF, and scientists from research institutions throughout the world.Located on unceded Abenaki land in the SW White Mountain National Forest in NH, the Forest has weathered a variety of natural and human-caused disturbances including logging, acid rain, microbursts, ice storms, exotic pests and pathogens, and climate impacts (e.g.increased precipitation and rapidly warming winters). How the forest has responded—and will respond—to these and other disturbances is an overarching theme of the site’s research efforts.

Director, Energy Policy and Systems Analysis (EPSA)-90The QER is a comprehensive review of all aspects of U.S. energy supply and demand resulting in a national energy strategy/roadmap, needed to transition to a low-carbon, more secure economy. The QER is a multiyear plan that lays out an integrated view of short-, mid-, and long-term energy objectives; outlines policy and legislative proposals; puts forward anticipated Executive Branch actions coordinated across multiple agencies; and identifies resource requirements for the development and implementation of energy technologies.
