About Daniel Haynes

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineer at BAE Systems Australia. Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Graduate from The University of Adelaide. In my final year of studies at the UofA, I was the Team Manager and also Head of the Aerostructures Subsystem of the 2015 Adelaide University Solar Racing Team, with whom successfully built and raced the first solar powered electric vehicle to compete in the 2015 World Solar Challenge from The University of Adelaide. This was a massive project for the University and I am extremely proud to have led this team of 23 students through this year and the race in October. Outside of my studies I dedicate many hours to the games of hockey and golf. I represented South Australia in State Under 18 & 21 Hockey teams, and have been a long-term member of the Port Adelaide Premier League Men's Team. I have a passion for aviation and any day I'm in an aircraft is a good day.

Listed skills include Microsoft Office, Management, Matlab, Ansys, and 10 others.

This involved communicating and organising with team members, sponsors, university staff and World Solar Challenge officials to ensure the project runs smoothly, on time, and on budget. This position not only exposed me to all the systems of the car and the methods involved in their construction, but also several media, marketing, and logistical planning initiatives. As the head of the aerodynamics and structures subsystem, it was my job to oversee and participate in the completion of the external and internal structural components of the vehicle to ensure the vehicle was sufficiently light weight and aerodynamic, without hindering its safety. This largely meant using composite materials such as carbon fiber and fiberglass. I was also responsible for the top down assembly 3D model (Inventor 2015) as well as the complete design and build processes of the safety cage and the acrylic canopy of the vehicle which involved 3D modelling, 3D analyses and creating working drawings. In total, 1,650 hours were spent on the project in the 8 month period alongside my other final year studies. Show less
