Selected as the top 1% out of 9000+ applications, I was humbled to be a participant of The AFS Global STEM as a scholar, representing Pakistan in a pool of international candidates. The AFS Global STEM Accelerators, co-developed by ‘University of Pennsylvania’ and ‘AFS Programs’, was a full scholarship, online intercultural exchange program for young women interested in STEM, sustainability, global competence education, and social impact worldwide. The 12-week program culminated of team projects and presentations that focused on potential solutions to real-world challenges, with a specific emphasis on climate change and energy transition.I was honored to receive the ‘Advance Certificate on Global Competence on Social Impact’, for my Capstone project, ‘Eco-friendly Pencils’, which tackled a critical issue in my community. The official committee of validators from AFS and Center for Social Impact Strategy at the ‘University of Pennsylvania’ recognized my work and provided me with the following feedback:"Incredible work on your presentation! You included a compelling personal narrative and clearly articulated your problem statement. You can strengthen your problem statement by adding exact statistics or moving facts. Not only does your prototype effectively address the issue that you identified, you even physically created and started using the prototype. You sought out meaningful feedback from important stakeholders (potential users and sellers of your product), and have already started thinking about how you can improve upon your prototype. Excellent job!”Additionally, I was thrilled to be selected as a superstar alumna of AFS Global STEM Accelerators, which gave me an opportunity to submit a creative video testimonial.
