My position at Richard Irvin supports the management, planning and development of the HR function and the service it delivers to the business. In addition, I have primary responsibility for providing HR generalist support and advice to the Mechanical and Electrical Business Unit, and the Finance Department. Key Responsibilities:• Providing expert advice and guidance for managers in dealing with high volume disciplinary, capability and grievance issues.• Supporting managers with resource planning, right-sizing and redundancy processes. A full redundancy process was carried out in April/May 2018 resulting in 39 positions being made redundant. • Assisting managers in dealing with performance issues in a proactive manner by supporting them with meeting preparation and scripting.• Assisting managers with monitoring and managing sickness absence including referrals to occupational health, and dealing with the interpretation of the results.• Providing support and guidance to managers in dealing with the resourcing and recruitment of staff, including liaising with employment agencies where appropriate to assist with sourcing suitable candidates.• Interviewing and assessing candidates in line with company processes and best practice.• Providing coaching support to staff and managers.

My career at Baillie Gifford (BG) spanned over 15 years, throughout which I progressed through a number of positions. Starting as a HR Assistant carrying out administration and junior HR tasks, I progressed to HR Adviser when I adopted a full HR generalist role. I became a Senior HR Adviser when my role involved supervising others. My position on leaving was HR Manager, having been promoted into a senior, more strategic role within the HR team, reporting directly to the Head of HR.During my career at BG I have provided generalist HR support for almost all departments within the Firm. Latterly I was the key HR contact for the Firm’s client facing department (approx. 200 people), which has historically been one of the two most challenging areas of the business from a HR perspective. This role included providing support for staff based in New York. The role I held at Baillie Gifford in the five years prior to leaving encompassed four main areas of responsibility:1. Contributing to the development and direction of the HR department at a strategic level as part of the senior HR team2.
