In this role I help to manage the budgets of 19 schools. This is a varied role and in many cases I am the first point of contact for a variety of stakeholders, including School Business Managers and Head Teachers. My specific responsibilities include calculating the amount of cash advance each school is due on a monthly basis and reconciling their local bank accounts against the records of income and expenditure displayed on our balance sheet. I also help to allocate Special Educational Needs funding correctly. I do this by maintaining the accuracy of records and calculating payments to schools on a termly basis. As you would expect, this is a sensitive area and it requires great diligence during funding calculation. Furthermore, I reconcile the grant payments we receive from Central Government once they are received by our income team.

I worked in the Records Management Unit and dealt with sensitive data on a daily basis. I needed an understanding and appreciation of the importance of confidentiality for this role. I also needed strong attention to detail as we dealt with thousands of records which needed to be kept in specific places. If a mistake was made with this it was possible that the record was lost. There were times when a record was needed urgently and if this was the case we needed to be flexible with our workload to accommodate this - therefore effective time management was a must.
