I am a passionate and adaptable teacher, trained for a rapidly changing and globalising workplace. My teacher education has taught me the skills required to deliver 21st-century teaching and learning strategies in line with the transforming Junior and Senior Cycle programmes. I have the ability to create a trusting and fun classroom environment while using my enthusiasm to encourage student learning.I use restorative practice to build relationships with my students while maintaining high expectations for their academic and personal development. I am a dedicated team player with excellent communication and leadership skills which have been proven over the course of my previous career and throughout my professional practice in school. My teaching strategy is based on a positive learning environment, varied instruction based on peer reviewed research and promotion of critical thinking. A positive learning environment:I believe that all students should feel comfortable in an environment that is conducive to learning, a place where all students feel safe and can creatively contribute to a diverse community of learners. When this is the case, all students with the help of the right tools, are able to overcome any difficulties that may be presented while studying. This is the type of environment I aim to create in my classroom.Varied instruction: The research and application of active methodologies, multiple intelligence theories and experiential learning are fundamental strategies I employ when facilitating learning. All students should have access to learning regardless of their ability and specifically in relation to special educational needs, preferred learning styles and social or cultural backgrounds. My planning is informed and continually improves based on my experiences and collaboration with other teachers. Critical thinking:Critical thinking is an invaluable skill to have regardless of the subject. I believe that students of science have a great opportunity to develop this skill through technology, inquiry and experimentation all of which are features of the subject. Throughout my teaching, students will gain this skill to formulate appropriate questions, seek out ideas and opinions, and to think independently. In conclusion, I believe in building positive relationships with staff, students and parents by working alongside them in an effort to improve student achievement. Finally, I aim to teach students to become resilient, respectful and responsible citizens who positively contribute to society in their own unique way.
