Counsellor
CurrentQualified counsellor, registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), providing counselling support to adults in York city centre. Particular interest and experience working with clients who have suffered sexual violence and domestic abuse. I offer private counselling sessions in a safe, confidential space and will work at a pace that feels right for the client. I work along-side clients without judgement and aim to support them in making sense of their experiences, thoughts and feelings. Together we help gain clarity and new perspectives enabling the client to make their own choices going forward. My intention is to help clients increase their self worth and belief that change is possible. During my time working in a specialist sexual violence and domestic abuse organisation (Aegis), funded by North Yorkshire Police Supporting Victims Unit, I supported clients who experienced PTSD, Complex PTSD, OCD, dissociation, flashbacks, panic attacks and hypervigilance. Many clients also struggled with relationships, self-worth, self-doubt, trust and shame. Clients included those who had suffered childhood sexual abuse, rape and sexual assaults.Difficulties experienced by clients are by no means isolated to abuse. I also have experience working within a general counselling organisation, (Talking Spaces, Harrogate) where clients presented with a broad spectrum of issues including bereavement, work-related stress, anxiety and depression. In addition, I also worked with ‘Supporting Victims of Serious Crime’ referred by NYP OPCC.
