My role involved travelling to local schools and delivering presentations to large groups of secondary school children about what life is like at university. These presentations were primarily targeted at lower attaining students, helping to answer any questions or concerns they had about whether university is the right choice for them. Some presentations were focused specifically on learning sociology at degree level and I found it highly rewarding to be able to share my passion for the subject with students. I hope that through these group sessions I was able to provide a good example of student life and demonstrate the value of being passionate about a subject.

This role appealed to me as I am very interested in pursuing a career in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion as part of a Human Resources team.My main responsibilities in this job involved updating the employee demographic information held in the company HR Core system. To do this, I distributed surveys to over 3000 staff members, then collected and analysed the data in a confidential database I created on Excel. This informed strategic decisions made by the department and supported them with meeting staff needs, all from an equality and diversity perspective. This was a tangible application of skills I had developed throughout my sociology degree; specifically research, data analysis, and understanding social responsibility.

This job involved a lot of multi-tasking to complete all daily tasks due to working with a very small staff team. Delivering a high standard of customer service both in person and on the phone was prioritised, with my role involving processing orders and deliveries, replenishing stock, and handling cash and credit card transactions on the till system.

In this part-time role I worked with the shop floor team to provide excellent customer service. I was responsible for processing orders and deliveries for customers, handling cash and credit card transactions on the tills, and helping customers and other store members on the phone. This job taught me a lot about prioritising tasks and organising my time to ensure customers were served efficiently whilst keeping up with my other duties.
