My role at SEA LIFE TRUST centred around growing awareness of the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Cornwall and the world’s first Beluga Whale Sanctuary in Iceland, as well as the overarching marine conservation efforts of the wider charity.Key skills & responsibilities:- Driving brand awareness through regional, national and international press and media- Managing crisis communications and press partnerships- Hosting and managing press events and media visits- Building relationships with ambassadors and stakeholders- Developing and delivering marketing and communications strategies across the charity- Building engaging marketing campaigns with an annual combined budget of £100,000- Managing and mentoring a growing team of marketing and fundraising professionals- Working with external suppliers to deliver marketing goals both in the UK and abroad

Lewinnick Lodge is the ultimate cliff-side venue in Newquay and I had a brief (but lovely) time slipping into the world of luxury boutique hotel stays during my time here while building my freelance business. This part-time role was all about creating beautiful copy across their websites, social media and print marketing to grow customer bookings throughout the year. I also covered content for their sister venue, The Plume of Feathers in Mitchell.

Redruth, Cornwall, United Kingdom

At Pirate FM, I chiselled my skills in marketing and communications while working with the programming team as a digital journalist and producer. Having already started as a news reporter at the station back in 2016, this role bridged the gap between journalism and content writing, broadening my horizons into commercial writing, client social media management and developing brands online. This worked alongside my previous role as a news reporter, which I continued until leaving to launch my own business in 2018.

Cornwall

My first role here as a news reporter saw me cover all corners of the county, driving to stories on a daily basis. Working within the team to curate content for both online and on-air, I followed hourly deadlines, as well as planning in advance for events across Cornwall. Other duties included working across departments to help build the Pirate brand, both via social media and outside of the office.

Penzance, Cornwall

After my quick stint in London, I headed back to my favourite place in the world to take up a job on local newspaper The Cornishman. It was here that I sharpened my news-writing skills and mastered the tricks of sniffing out a decent story, while balancing tight deadlines. Work varied between hard- hitting and soft news stories with a mixture of features, while part of the role also included running the website and social media sites for the West Briton and the Cornish Guardian brands (now collectively recognised as Cornwall Live).

Fresh off my degree in Cornwall, I found myself back in London working with educational magazine/journal Aesthetics. Here, my role included writing news stories and features, sourcing ideas, commissioning freelance writers and subbing copy, as well as utilising social media for brand exposure. Other responsibilities included networking and building brand reputation via company events, such as conferences and awards ceremonies.
