Grants Manager
I manage submission, reporting, and deadlines for funded grant proposals, including maintenance and coordination of funder portals and registrations. I develop internal communication about grants policies and processes, acting as liaison with project managers to support successful relationships between PMs and funders, as well as supporting captivating program production that reflects the values of both the Exploratorium and the funder. In support of grant writers and project managers who develop compelling proposals, I perform prospecting research and grant/funder analyses. Working closely with program staff to prepare proposals, reports, and updates, I write and edit drafts as needed and maintain knowledge of the broad range of programs throughout the museum. During the internal grants review and approval process as well as award orientation, I facilitate and lead meetings with senior leadership and staff and support budget development and reporting.
Institutional Archivist
I managed the Mechanics’ Institute historical archival collections, special collections, and contemporary institutional records, promoting the archives and special collections by preparing exhibits, marketing, outreach plans, and communications to members and the public. I provided guidance and instruction in the use of the archives and special collections for research and other purposes and ensured access via digitization and the creation and maintenance of finding aids. This role also encompassed conducting site tours and coordinating programming related to the Institute’s historical archives holdings, as well as supervising the work of volunteers and interns.
Development & Membership Manager
I developed annual strategic plans and departmental budgets. I supervised a Membership Associate and managed member and donor records, ensuring database integrity through periodic audits of data. Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer to establish initiatives that supported member engagement, retention, and giving, I produced donor events, managed annual giving fundraising activities, and developed donor stewardship programs. I researched government and foundation grant opportunities, developed an annual grants calendar, collaborated with program and finance staff to determine eligibility and capacity, and drafted proposals and letters of inquiry. For successful proposals, I managed grant contracts, compliance with funder requirements, and reporting. On the capital campaign feasibility study, I coordinated interviews and supported the committee in an administrative role. As a key member of the strategic planning committee, I developed a member survey and analyzed results used to underpin the process. I collaborated closely with institutional leadership and board members to develop mission, vision, values statements; participated in the process of envisioning short and long-term institutional goals; and suggested and refined key progress indicators. I created Development and Membership board reports and delivered these in bi-monthly Development Committee meetings. I also maintained meeting minutes at all Board meetings.
Librarian, Library Manager
Supervisory ExperienceI managed library operations, scheduling, payroll, reviews, hiring, budgeting, and workflows for 10 paraprofessional staff members. I maintained operational and circulation statistics and worked closely with the Circulation Supervisor to ensure that all staff were properly trained and that their needs were represented in the workplace. I also engaged in strategic and operational projects that benefited the Institute on a long-term basis. Programming and Public ServicesI was the instructional program administrator and discussion groups manager. I coordinated class schedules, delivered classes focused on electronic resources, web tools, and best practices for online interactions, led book groups, and managed member-led affinity groups. I assisted in providing writers’ services and co-hosted the Writers’ Luncheon each month. I co-produced "Reinvention: Thriving in the 21st Century", the International Conference of Independent Libraries & Mechanics' Institutes in 2017, engaging in collaborative planning and problem-solving, project management, web content management, and day-of production. Using Adobe InDesign, I published a content-rich newsletter and designed the Mechanics' Institute Annual Report. I developed a weekly e-newsletter using a Drupal-based CMS.Collection ManagementUnder my management, the library's large fiction collection (35,000+) circulated at a high ratio per item, e.g., short stories circulation increased from 20% to 80% of the collection, due to a combination of thinning unused materials, marketing remaining materials, and selective acquisition. I prepared annual circulation statistical reports for the library’s collection, both overall and for individual subjects. I performed space-use analyses and electronic resource evaluations for open-source ebook portals and online readers’ advisory sources.
Library Page
I shelved and shelf-read all materials on the third floor of Main Library. I maintained the Educational Guidance Collection and the Chinese Center, which entailed shelf-reading, cleanup, and organization of each room and its collection, as well as assisting with collection development duties under the managing librarian's direction. I resolved copy and print issues, retrieved books in compact stacks, and managed access to all third floor meeting/study rooms. I routed materials throughout the Main Library, including holds and inter-library loans, materials belonging to other floors, and materials housed in deep storage.
Bookseller
I began volunteering with the Friends of SFPL in 2010. I progressed to working as an on-call contractor for the Readers’ Bookstores before earning a permanent position as a bookseller. In addition to providing customer service and reader’s advisory to store patrons, I designed displays, placed orders for store stock, managed sales at author events, and mentored volunteers.
Library Services Assistant
In my tenure at MPL, I managed and trained staff, performed reference services, maintained usage statistics, engaged in collection management, and wrote procedures. From February 2008-January 2009, I earned two promotions, excelling in the Circulation Assistant I position at East Branch Library, which led to my promotion to Circulation Assistant II at the Central Library. In January 2009, I was promoted to Library Services Assistant, Supervisor at Zablocki Branch Library.
