In 2018, I launched penandpaperphonics.com, an educational blog for parents and educators all about phonics. The aim of this is to provide quick, easy and effective phonics activities for toddlers, preschoolers and elementary students, that only require a few resources, such as a pen and paper. The idea behind my blog is that phonics is a fundamental part of the 'learning to read process', but it is often difficult for parents to know how to support their child in this. Step by step activity plans help guide parents through the activity and ready made resources make it easy to deliver. Educators, such as teachers and classroom practitioners, many of whom already understand the benefit of phonics, have many constraints on their time, so quick ideas that are easily adaptable and well resourced can be invaluable as they plan their phonics activities.

I am currently undertaking a practicum to become an Associate of the AOGPE. This involves working one on one with a child with dyslexia, using the Orton Gillingham sequence and lesson structure. The content and structure of OG lessons is designed specifically to meet the needs of children with dyslexia, ensuring they learn to read successfully. Ongoing observations and assessments by my mentor, a Fellow-in-Training at the academy, ensure progress and high standards.

My passion is teaching reading, and I love to help children progress through the individual stages of reading to full fluency and independence. I currently work one to one with students, tutoring them in reading and writing, online and in person. My 10+ years experience of being a class teacher has allowed me to adapt and develop resources and activities to suit the stages of reading, as well as individual children's needs. I make sure students are engaged in their learning, whether that is through physical movement, auditory games or visual learning.I have gained experience in teaching children from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities, including children who have English as Additional Language (ESL), children who have additional learning needs and children who are gifted and talented in certain areas. https://www.wyzant.com/Tutors/hannah_tutor
