Hc Lau Work Experience Details
  • Mdimune
    Senior Research Scientist
    Mdimune Dec 2016 - Present
    Seoul, South Korea
I served as the CMC group manager, leading a dynamic team overseeing the development, manufacturing, and quality control of nanovesicles known as cell-derived vesicles (CDVs), a basis of an innovative drug delivery system, BioDrone®. I contributed to the development of the CDV manufacturing process and successfully established a systematic production process, release criteria, and analytical methods in compliance with regulatory guidelines and standards. As a Project Lead, I also led various international collaborative projects focused on BioDrone® platform development. I collaborated with the GMP unit from Paracelsus Medical University (PMU), Austria, to develop a GMP-compliant manufacturing process for CDVs. The collaborative efforts resulted in the successful establishment of a GMP-compliant process for producing a large number of CDVs in a reproducible manner. Furthermore, I partnered with a process development team from Lonza to advance the understanding of CDV characteristics. Extensive characterization of CDVs facilitated the development of CDV engineering for therapeutic applications. The outcomes of these studies were published in reputable journals, including the Journal of Extracellular Biology (2022) and Scientific Reports (2024).
  • K-Bio
    Research Scientist
    K-Bio Apr 2016 - Oct 2016
The primary objective was to develop an effective and controlled epidermal growth factor (EGF) carrier for treating diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) using a coacervate system. The protein coacervate system showed high protein encapsulation efficiency and protection against proteolytic degradation, demonstrating its potential as a delivery system for chronic wounds. The finding was published in the International Journal of Biological Macromolecules (2018).
  • Cha University 차의과학대학교
    Postdoctoral Researcher
Cha University 차의과학대학교 Nov 2015 - Mar 2016
    South Korea
I designed and developed a micro-drug delivery system to maintain protein stability by using various natural polymers. Different formulations, each employing a different ratio of polymers, were used to assess the stability and integrity of the protein payloads. The formulation with the highest protein stability was identified, utilizing a combination of alginate and gelatin.
  • Swinburne University Of Technology Sarawak Campus
    Lecturer
Swinburne University Of Technology Sarawak Campus Feb 2009 - Dec 2010
    Sarawak Malaysia
As a lecturer, my primary responsibility is to deliver engaging and informative lectures to students in basic biology and chemistry. Additionally, I have experience in facilitating hands-on learning experiences and providing practical instruction to students in a laboratory environment. I have assisted students in experimental design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation, thereby promoting critical thinking and problem-solving skills. In addition to overseeing lab activities. I have also been responsible for maintaining and managing laboratory resources, such as equipment, supplies, and chemicals. Furthermore, I ensure compliance with safety regulations and foster a culture of safety among students, emphasizing the importance of proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas)
    Research Assistant
Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) Jun 2004 - Apr 2005
    Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia
As a research assistant, I studied the Plasmodium falciparum chloroquine resistance gene (pfcrt) from the blood spot collected from three geographical distinct locations, Nepal, Sarawak and Vietnam. The results provided a fundamental epidemiological understanding of the non- silent mutations of isolates collected from these locations. I also identify the CQ resistant marker pfcrt 76T across Sarawak by using PCR and sequencing. The result was useful in antimalarial treatment policy in Sarawak. Molecular techniques and skills, ability in experimental planning, troubleshooting and interpretation of results were developed throughout the studies. The project was presented orally in the 43rd Annual Scientific Seminar of Malaysian Society of Parasitology and Tropical Medicine and Centenary Celebration of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (UK).
