Contracted position with the Commonwealth of Virginia. Support the Commonwealth of Virginia in its effort to address unprecedented unemployment insurance benefit claims. Review, examine, and process Virginia Employment Center (VEC) pre-screened unemployment insurance claims for: whether the Claimant was terminated by the employer, whether the employer agrees to the nature of termination as indicated by the claimant, and whether the employer contests the Claimant's application for unemployment benefits. Obtain information, from the Claimant and from the employer, required to ensure timely and appropriate processing of claims. Apply Unemployment Insurance Law to the facts presented on the various issues of the case. Conduct data entry of determination of benefit eligibility into VEC systems in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations and VEC protocols. Escalate claims that are out of scope to the appropriate channels. Tasked with reviewing work completed by employees under my supervision and performing quality checks. Continuously educating and training staff on materials relevant to the workflow. Attend meetings with the VEC to provide updates on progress of projects and to obtain information to help make the workflow more efficient. Position requires the ability to work independently with minimum supervision. The position also requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to organize and prioritize the workload while maintaining a sense of urgency, the ability to remain focused and pay close attention to details, and the ability to make impartial decisions.

During my internship at the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court (JDRDC) I was responsible for a variety of tasks – managing the volunteer database, supporting the research and development department, completing juvenile expungements, and supporting the volunteer and intern manager in data reports.While managing the volunteer database, I was responsible for inputting volunteer hours, auditing previously input hours, monitoring intern hours, inputting training/waivers & awards, and developing instruction sheets. The instruction sheets are detailed reports of how to complete various tasks within the volunteer management system to help future staff members. Additionally, I have been able to pull reports that even the county-wide coordinator was unable to complete.I was able to work with the head of the research and development department to help with various projects. I was responsible for pulling data from the county case management system, BADGE, cleaning the data, and completing analysis. I used Microsoft Excel to complete the data analysis where I utilized pivot tables and graphs. Once the analysis was complete, I was responsible for creating finalized reports that were shown to the deputy director of JDRDC. I was able to complete these tasks independently and submit my work days before the deadline.Between projects, I was able to help complete juvenile expungements. I was able to read through case material to learn what is included in a juvenile file, how the juvenile justice process played out, and what treatment was provided for various offenses. I learned how to complete expungements – how files should be taken apart and what was required to be shredded.Throughout my internship, the volunteer and intern manager provided me with various assignments to help support the larger agency. I was able to pull data pertaining to intern diversity, from 2014 to present, and to develop reports that highlighted the breakdown of gender and race/ethnicity.
