As an Oncology Nurse Manager in an acute care setting and with critical care opportunities it is our job to put time aside for our staff when the feel compassion fatigue, or burden of caring for such ill patients. The most important aspect of Oncology nursing is being face to face and side by side with your staff, patients, and thier families. Here is where patient advocacy is of the most important. Patient education is of the highest interest. Communication regarding Plan of Care during hospitalization and post discharge are essential in providing the best care and key to decreasing readmission rates.
