Over the summer in 2023, I had the opportunity to work with Kiewit in Little Rock, Arkansas on the 30 Crossing Project. My primary duty as an intern was to ensure the required inspections were being performed and documented in accordance with the commitments in our inspection text plans. I had the privilege of developing work plans, tour an AFCO steel fabrication shop, attend a TyBot presentation, cook for the staff, and present my intern work at the end of the summer.

Worked a 6-month co-op program at Braun Intertec. During that time I gained experience in comprehensive construction safety, learning procedures under ASTM, AASHTO, ACI, ICC, and MnDOT standards, and field testing construction materials which include: soil, concrete, and bituminous. I worked on the transportation team which included compaction, bituminous, and concrete testing for roadways. I also worked on the South West Light Rail Team (SWLRT) as well for Braun which entailed concrete testing and inspection for the Green Line Light Rail Extension Project.

Worked under Dr. Stephen Druschel who is the principal investigator of the ongoing Chloride Columns project. The premise of this project is that Dr. Druschel wanted to collect data on how salt from plows are affected by different salts and clays. This was tested by constructing three different troughs and filling each trough with peastone, sod and beach sand. The beach sands contained different percentages of cat litter to simulate different soils. Salt water was run through these troughs and data is being collected still as of 8/31/21. My job was to design the troughs that could simulate roadside ditches.
