The Dutch Railways (NS) has a centralized ICT department (SSC-ICT). As a product manager, I work closely with the NS Account Mangers to help the Rail business units with ICT infrastructure solutions. The SID (Station Infra Dienst) department is in control of all railway station IT infrastructure. The SID is 5 FTE. As a Product Manager I coordinate all ICT-related issues during renovations; I ensure that changes to the infrastructure are included in the renovation plans, control the activities for this and manage the procurement of ICT equipment. To achieve this I liaise closely with other business units involved in railway station renovations and with external contractors. The Result is that NS can save costs because they can act early in the proces of a project.

Project size is 25 FTE. As Project Manager I lead the programme to migration the NS infrastructure from British Telecom (BT) to Tele2. This involves the replacement of the BT and ProRail infrastructure with a new WAN infrastructure for more than 360 railway stations. During project implementation, I am responsible for the timely delivery of services to external parties such as municipalities. I am also responsible for arranging permits, contractors, and both excavation and construction work. The Result is that the new infrastructure is simpler in design and results in a 20% cost reduction. An additional advantage is that the network is easily adaptable to new situations.

The client is therefore partially outsourcing the Mobile management. Project size is 5 FTE. As the appointed manager, I am responsible for the outsourcing process. I supervise the outsourcing process from requirements definition through to service selection and implementation. The result is that Monuta has now not only improved its service to the users of mobile phones but also reduced the costs. Costs are down 30% whilst the timeframe for equipment replacement has been reduced to 24 hours. In the past this could take up to one week.
