Museum Conservation Specialist
CurrentAs the Museum Conservation Specialist I examine, treat and documents object conservation treatments and collaborates on preventive collections care for a broad range of objects at the Montana Historical Society (MHS), the Original Governor's Mansion (OGM), and the Scriver Center. I establish conservation and preventive conservation priorities. Maintain the conservation laboratory and ensures compliance with current industry standards and best practices. I work with Exhibit team and discuss requirements for sound exhibit and storage mounts for objects. I oversee the Museum's Integrated Pest Management program by updating the IPM manual, monitoring exhibit and storage areas and documenting any evidence of insects, other pests, or mould; determines and initiates the appropriate procedures to reduce/eliminate problems when evidence of infestation is found. IPM is monitored in three different buildings. I maintain emergency response and recovery procedures for Museum art and artifacts.Assists with creating access to objects and providing public programs on conservation and the work of a conservator. Serves as an information resource for the public and other cultural heritage institutionsI created a Health and Safety Plan for the Museum Program, which includes, work shop safety, lab safety, Hazards found in the Museum collection. I created a housekeeping manual for the house museum which includes, cleaning methods, cleaning chemicals and produces.
