In my current role as Sr. Director of Research and Development at Hollingsworth & Vose I lead a team of scientists to develop new market leading innovations for the air and liquid filtration markets. I have many years of manufacturing management, technology management and overall leadership that I utilize in the product development cycle. As Sr. Director of Research and Development I am a part of the entire Innovation cycle from idea creation and concept work all the way through patenting, product launch, internal training and customer presentations.The team works with vendors, start up companies, universities, consultants, and licensing opportunities to develop new ideas and concepts. We then work with cross functional teams to develop new ideas and concepts which are prioritized to assure that we have a long term vision of product development that will lead to financial success. At the end of the cycle we assure patent coverage is appropriate and work with the marketing team to develop presentation and training materials to describe the financial and technical advantages of the products. I have given a large number of technical presentations to end users or at technical trade shows explaining the positive attributes of the new designs.

Managed a team of scientists and technicians to develop new and innovative products. The management style was a team oriented fail fast, learn and use learnings to generate the most differentiated products in the targeted markets while still maintaining a portfolio of cost out, innovation, and customer specific projects. New to world products like Nanowave were developed that created a 3 dimensional fiber structure. This product line has become one of the largest sellers for Hollingsworth & Vose and is recognized as the most patented and most differentiated product offering.

Floyd, Va

Developed a process where 4 layers could be brought together in one step while manufacturing meltblown fibrous materials. This reduced overall cost of the product being produced by 25% for a yearly savings of $400,000 and making the products more competitive in the market space. Developed a new chemistry for electrostatic charge enhancement that gave the products an advanatge for pressure drop in the final filter. The lower pressure drops saved large amounts of energy in the end use. Developed a process to make fibers less than 1 micron (patented) that allowed for best in class air and liquid filtration properties. These products amounted to $5 million in sales per year for the next several years.

Floyd, Va

Relocated to Hollingsworth & Vose's Floyd, VA location and was part of the team that installed new meltblown equipment to triple the meltblown capacity. After the installtion of the new equipment the equipment from the Fall River location was then moved to the Floyd, VA location. Trained a team of operators on the operation, maintenance, quality control of the process so that the machines could be run 24/7. In my time in this role we doubled the capacity again due to the business growth. I also managed the carding equipment side of the business in Floyd eventually managing a team of nearly 100 manufacturing personnel.

Fall River, Ma

Managed the entire manufacturing process in the meltblwon technology area for Hollingsworth & Vose Company. Developed a new quality system and SOP's for the process that allowed us to grow in the face mask and HVAC filter markets to a point where we needed capacity expansion. Developed a technology that allowed for improved year round prodution by designing and installing a temperature controlled air curtain around the fiber spinning area. This change improved profitability by $650,000 through yield and efficiency improvements.

Fall River, Ma

I was an integral part of starting up a meltblown line which was a new technology for Hollingsworth & Vose Company. In this role this technology was run like a start up company and I had the opportunity to work in quality, manufacturing management, proces engineering, and Research and development. While I was in this role we achieved several million dollars of new business in vacuum cleaner bag liners, face mask, and HVAC filtration.
