Co-founder and lead actuary at Validate Health, the industry’s only financial forecasting and optimization platform built exclusively for ACOs. I specialize in payer contract modeling (including MSSP, NextGen, Medicare Advantage and commercial), forecasting shared savings under different decision scenarios and risk hedging strategies to lock in expected financial outcomes. I also serve in a consulting role for NAACOS, quantifying the financial impact of policy changes to support federal policy recommendations and designing methodologies for analyzing nationwide datasets.

Presence Health is a large community health system in Illinois with $3 billion in annual operating revenue and 150 sites of care including 12 hospitals, 27 nursing homes, and 6 urgent care centers. I was the hospital billing team leader managing 12 IT analysts working to transition the last three Presence hospitals from a 20-year old legacy electronic medical record system to Epic. Responsibilities included mapping functional requirements to system requirements, record build, database performance monitoring, vendor interface management for over 40 financial third-party vendors, and change management for daily production system changes. Achievements included transitioning the first long term acute care in the country to Epic Resolute Hospital Billing, converting tens of millions in accounts receivable successfully, improving the Advanced Beneficiary Notice process to be able to collect millions more in Medicare receivables, and being the recipient of the Parachute Packer award for innovative IT solutions.

Towers Watson is a Fortune 500 number one most admired companies of 2015 offering a range of professional services including risk management and human resource consulting. I was part of an elite health and group benefits actuarial team under the guidance of the national Chief Actuary of Health and Group Benefits providing actuarial consulting services to Fortune 1000 companies including SC Johnson, Kohler, Manpower, Joy Global Inc. and HSBC. My responsibilities included annual self-funded premium equivalent development for medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, and disability benefits, quarterly financial performance reporting across all employee benefits, quarterly incurred but not reported (IBNR) reserve development, catastrophic reinsurance modeling, health care reform impact modeling, and local provider network reimbursement modeling. Achievements included employee recognition for the development of a geographic mapping visualization for local provider network reimbursements and the introduction of a MS Access database to organize eligibility data for supporting a $25 billion government stimulus early retiree reinsurance program.

Epic is the largest provider of electronic medical records through an enterprise platform with over 40 different subject area modules. I acted as a technical problem solver for the hospital billing accounting application. I was trained in Visual Basic, ActiveX, the Cache implementation of a post-relational database called MUMPS, and KB-SQL. Responsibilities included programming custom enhancements to the system, large-scale data migration, custom reporting, troubleshooting bugs in source code, and customer issue resolution. I supported half a dozen go-lives across the country for top 100 hospitals including Kaiser Permanente, Texas Children’s Hospital, and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Achievements included being an active member of the organization-wide data migration team, programming critical fixes to reporting routines, and developing a Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) code visualization tool for all Epic programmers.

Spent two months with 20 riders going 4,500 miles from NY to San Diego and raising $50,000 for cancer research while doing it.

I participated in a Materials Science summer research project funded by the Department of Energy directly supervised by a director of the board of the Materials Research Society. We used FORTAN to run Molecular Dynamics simulations of Copper and Nickel alloys at different concentrations, temperatures and pressures to guide the invention of radiation resistant materials. Molecular Dynamics utilizes first order numerical approximation to solve the N-body problem in Physics. The data was analyzed using C++ programs and visualized using RasMol. We discovered that an increase in Copper concentration resulted in more radiation resistant materials at certain temperatures and pressures.

I participated in a Mathematics summer research program funded by the National Science Foundation directly supervised by the head of the mathematics honors sequence. We used Mathematica to generate thousands of coefficients of products of complex imaginary polynomials and investigated the divisibility properties of these coefficients. Results were the mathematical proof of an extension of a divisibility property result for prime numbers and the investigation of a deep connection to matrix determinants.
