I remember the first time I had a kaleidoscope. Rotating the end and watching the colours swoop and swirl to form and reform beautiful patterns.[2 minute kaleidoscope diversion: www.luxa.org/image/]I have a kaleidoscope of skills and experience that form and reform to benefit the variety of jobs in my career. I’m driven to help others, to build teams and sustainable networks. I love to think out of the box, think big. Where could you go, how do you want to be in your life? What could your organisation do, how can it best serve its clients and its staff? One of my favourite questions is 'How can I help you?' Underpinning my ability to respond to your needs is that kaleidoscope of skills and experiences. Financial management started early, navigating the benefit system for my mum who was bipolar. Budget control in theatre work led to financial strategic planning in community development and my own business, HEARTFELT CHANGE. I've spent happy hours with spreadsheets creating business plans and cash flow forecasts; aligning them to plans for income generation and funding.Moving from the mainland to live on the Isle of Coll put me at the heart of community development. Skills learnt in theatre (keeping within budget, delivering on time, team building, sharing visions, maintaining quality) transferred neatly to a wealth of projects on Coll. I restarted the Coll newsletter, a great tool for community cohesion and was a founder member of RecyColl and the Education Forum, delivering various environmental and social enterprise projects. While working as the nursery teacher (honing negotiation and conflict resolution skills) I was head hunted by the Coll Development trust to take charge of our Community Centre project. As project manager I embraced community engagement, fundraising, planning and delivery. The building runs today with multi-generational and multi-purpose use. It is subsidised by unrestricted income from the social enterprise element of the project, Coll Bunkhouse. On Coll I embraced my love of the outdoors. A perfect environment to raise my young kids. Risk analyses with kids (as with organisations) is vital to healthy growth. Living rurally my kids could safely explore and assess risks. 'How deep is that puddle?' 'Hmm, a field of cows is different when calves are present with nervous mums.'So, how can I help you? Organisation development or growth; a project to deliver; personal growth? As a trauma informed qualified therapist and mindfulness coach, and with over 30 years’ experience in project management I have safe hands for you.
