This includes inspecting work areas for violations of Naval OSH standards, including overhead objects, wearing of proper protective gear (steel toe boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, hard hats, etc.), trip hazards, fire hazards, proper clearances around fire extinguishers and emergency showers and eye wash stations, as well as all other safety concerns.

As the battalion's HAZMAT/HAZWASTE manager, I am tasked with ensuring compliance with all Marine Corps Orders, local, state, and federal laws regarding the storage, handling, and wasting of the unit's hazardous materials and waste. During my time, there have been no incidences with spills or releases of hazardous materials or wastes and the unit has passed 3 base environmental inspections, as well as a San Diego County inspection.Also, rewrote the unit's Environmental Compliance Standard Operating Procedure with up to date information regarding Marine Corps Orders, local, state, and federal laws, RCRA, and Air Quality information.

Marine Corps Combat Engineers are tasked with construction, carpentry, bridge building, brick and block masonry, concrete work, demolition, and explosives handling. Trained in attention to detail, as we are also tasked with locating improvised explosives devices in combat zones.
