About Heather Canavan

I'm a Professor in the Department of Chemical & Biological Engineering at the University of New Mexico. For the first 15 years of my research career, I did fundamental research on cell/surface interactions, bioactive polymers and biocompatibility. In 2015, I was diagnosed in the early stages of breast cancer. While many patients and survivors have ideas for things they wish could be produced, very few have the access to the technology they need, the time and resources to prototype and design, or the personnel necessary to move forward with their ideas. I am now using my experience as a professor, researcher, and cancer survivor to connect other survivors to the technology, people, and resources eager to improve their worlds. To date, we've submitted 11 patent applications, trademarks, and other invention disclosures.
