Continuing my service to the Longhorn Center for Community Engagement, I was nominated to serve as the Teaching Assistant to the 2015-2016 class of Austin City Hall Fellows. Within my position I supported the Director, Dr. Suchi Gururaj, and the Graduate Assistant, Ashley Stone, with academic planning, course instruction and student engagement. As a former Austin City Hall Fellow, I highlighted my experiences working within the Holly neighborhood and Foundation Library as an example of successful community engagement. Another highlight of my experience was instructing a class centered around Marshall Ganz's Public Narrative. As mentioned below, I participated in an intensive four day training learning about grassroots efforts by telling Story of Self, Us and Now. Lastly, I assisted with building awareness for Austin City Hall Fellows through online mediums.

The Gateway Scholars program serves five-hundred incoming freshman students each year. Gateway is one of the largest student success program at the University of Texas at Austin. This program is housed in the Longhorn Center for Academic Excellence. We support our students to: 1) be successful at UT, and 2) be top-notch competitors in the global economy after graduation in whatever industry they are passionate about entering. In this role: • Served as liaison between Graduate Assistants and mentor body for first-year experience course: Race in the Age of Obama. Additionally, communicating educational materials such as, course curriculum and literature. • Structured mentor placement in all seminar cohorts and redesigned engagement by initiating a universal 15-minute mentor led facilitation in all 30 seminar cohorts. • Observed all 60 mentors in seminar cohorts and provided feedback on teaching styles, communication, and delivery. Tracked progress for each mentor in self-created and sustained database on Google Drive.

Summer Bridge is an invitation-only scholarship program at The University of Texas at Austin that provides incoming freshmen with tools and resources to jumpstart their first year in college. The Summer Bridge program provides a fully funded academic experience on UT campus that prepares students to get a head start on life as a Longhorn — launching students into freshman year by becoming familiar with campus resources, professors, other students, and college life. Students take two prescribed courses during the second summer session leading into the fall of their first year as part of the scholarship. On top of that, students who earn a 3.0+ GPA during the Summer Bridge program will receive an additional $1,000 merit-based award at the end of the summer.As a student of the Summer Bridge Program I worked as a Lead Mentor to serve as the liaison between five mentors and one cohort leader. I was selected for the Social Entrepreneurship Maymester course in Beijing, China. During my time, I enrolled within the History of Social Entrepreneurship course led by Dr. Leonard Moore and Dr. Charles Lu. In this class, I observed how innovative businesses in China and the United States use unique approaches to address poverty, environmental concerns, migrant education, caring for an aging population, urban unemployment, health care, orphan child welfare, womens’ rights, incarceration and other issues. In addition to classroom learning, I participated in an engaged learning activity with the Dandelion School, a middle school in Beijing that serves the city's large and expanding migrant population. By volunteering at the school, I gained first-hand knowledge of how one venture is attempting to address one of China's greatest social problems: migrant education. During my time at the Dandelion School I taught English to twenty Chinese middle school students, coordinated curriculum with my fellows in the program and made an educational video to demonstrate simple tasks explained in English.
