Profile bio

About Heather Cooper

My practice focuses almost exclusively on federal income tax issues relating to the renewable and transitional energy industry. I have many years' experience advising my clients on federal energy tax credits, including the investment tax credit and production tax credit. Since enactment of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), I have gained a reputation as an industry leader with respect to federal energy tax incentives. I am a tax lawyer who focuses exclusively on energy. I understand the business needs of the industry. My clients turn to me because I look for solutions rather than problems. My real-time analysis, webinars, and client updates on the IRA, including the voluminous interpretive IRS guidance, have made me a go-to authority in the post-IRA world. My philosophy is to facilitate energy transactions by efficiently responding to each client's individual needs. I understand that tax planning should support a deal - not impede it. From development pipeline through commercial operation and beyond, I advise on all aspects of energy transactions, adding significant value to client matters. As a forward-thinking partner with my clients, I make it a priority to help you anticipate changes, remove roadblocks, present actionable solutions and add value at every stage of your renewable, alternative or transitional energy project.
