Dr. Heather Giannini is a pulmonologist and intensivist at Virtua Health. She cares for patients in the Intensive Care Unit, the wards in pulmonary consultative practice, and the pulmonary clinic. She has a breadth of experience in clinical and translational research, investigating diagnostic and prognostic technologies for sepsis and acute respiratory failure through both molecular and clinical informatics technologies.She completed her medical training in Residency and Fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where she also worked as an Attending Physician in the ICU and Pulmonary services. She worked to develop a sepsis early warning system with machine-learning and predictive modeling that was implemented simultaneously across multiple hospitals within the University of Pennsylvania Health System. She continues her work at Penn as a Clinical Fellow of PennHealth Tech, serving in a clinical advising role for early stage prototype and IP development out of the PHT accelerator at Penn. Heather served on the Penn Medical ICU Leadership Council and the University of Pennsylvania Institutional Review Board. She was the Internal Medicine Chief Resident (2018-2019) for the Hospital of the Univ of PA Internal Medicine Residency, and completed the HUP Quality and Patient Safety Leadership program in LEAN methodologies during her training. Together with the partners at FVCHealth, she advises multiple start-ups in Health Tech and works towards development and implementation of various health-technology products and intellectual property. She is a Mentor for the health tech accelerator MATTER.
